Worship

What is our Worship Like?

Our Worship:

  • Is Focused on GodOur purpose is to worship God.  Thus, he is our focus.  In fact, we are not an audience.  God is the audience, we are the performers.  This also means that we don’t come to get something, but to give something.  We give God our worship and our praise!

  • Is Participatory - Worship is St. Paul’s REC is not a lecture or a concert that you sit and watch.  It is an act of worship in which you participate.  There will be lots of reading, standing, sitting, and kneeling.  Generally we “stand to praise”, “sit to learn”, and “kneel to pray”.

  • Is Guided by God’s Word – We read a lot from the Bible.  The Bible is the centerpiece of our worship and our living.

  • Is Enlivened by the Holy Spirit – Our worship is meaningful when it we come and worship God “in Spirit and in truth”.

  • Is Actuated by Faith – Trusting God is a key to effective worship.  By faith we receive God’s word and go out to put his word to practice in our lives.

  • Is Nurtured by Holy Communion – God feeds us spiritually at his table in ways that go beyond mere human understanding.  When we receive the bread and wine we are spiritually feeding upon his life as that bread and wine are by faith received as his body and blood.  We “feed on him in our hearts, by faith, with thanksgiving”.

  • Leads us out into the world to be the “light of the world and the salt of the earth” -  Worship of God does not end when the worship service is over.  We are sent out from the church to be his witnesses in the world.  In that sense, we are all ministers of God every minute of every day of our lives.
